The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services requires every state receiving a Hospital Bioterrorism Preparedness Program Award to develop an ESAR-VHP system. This dynamic system allows for advance registration and credentialing of clinicians and health volunteers necessary to augment effective surge capacity needs. Meeting this benchmark is a critical milestone in determining the preparedness of Nebraska’s health care systems.
The HPTS was named the ESAR-VHP Project Manager and works closely with NeDHHS, namely Ruth Cover, Nebraska Department of Health & Human Services Hospital Preparedness Grant Coordinator. Ms. Cover operates under the direction of Dr. Joann Schaefer, Division of Public Health, Chief Medical Officer.
At the conclusion of the initial meeting, Dr. Joann Schaefer, stated, "On behalf of the Nebraska Health and Human Service Bioterrorism Hospital Preparedness I'd like to gratefully acknowledge the stakeholders that attended our inaugural meeting and extend a special thank you to those continuing to serve us by volunteering to work on the task forces designing the plan for Nebraska."
The HPTS and NeDHHS officials would like to thank everyone for their participation in the inaugural ESAR-VHP Stakeholders meeting held October 26, 2006 in Lincoln, NE. We hope everyone left with a better understanding and willingness to assist the State of Nebraska in establishing a comprehensive registry system of volunteer health professionals. |
